Georgetown has a rich Jesuit tradition in which I learned a lot about through flourishing class. Growing up in the south and attending a non denominational church, I have never really learned what it meant to be a “Jesuit” and what type of theology that consisted of. Most everything in the Jesuit Guide was unfamiliar to me because I have had little exposure to the Catholic Church nor Jesuits, but the six paths are something that are relevant to anyone. Anyone who has had some sort of faith or is looking for it can find themselves on one of these paths even though they may not be Jesuit. I was able to relate my christian faith and life to the Jesuit principles even though I may not follow them completely. After learning about Jesuit culture and history, I can now recognize Jesuit principles being applied around campus. Georgetown University does a good job applying Jesuit principles especially for the examines. There is always times for meditation even if you are not a catholic. Georgetown is a Jesuit Institution, but it stays open for people of all cultures and religions to practice their own spirituality. Georgetown puts a stress on bettering the whole person which I learned is called “cura personalis.” Going to this school is special because the school isn’t just trying to teach you math and science, but instead they are trying to make you better as a whole. Having the comfort that this place is looking out fort your whole self makes the tough academics more doable.
